Putting the power to work in your home to create a renewable energy system

The DC electricity travels on wires from the solar array to an inverter.

The Inverter converts the DC electricity into AC, or alternating current,. AC electricity is what is used throughout your home to power your lights and appliances. The inverter then sends the electricity into your service panel, where it can be used in the home or can spin your electric meter backwards.

Run on or off the grid – you decide

Your solar system is configured to either be standalone, or be connected to the existing power grid. Most homeowners choose to stay connected to the grid because standalone, or off-grid, solar power systems are not eligible for rebates. Off-grid systems are generally reserved for remote locations and properties which are unable to obtain a connection to the utility company without exorbitant costs.

Here’s how a standard system works: your solar power system generates electricity during the day. When your energy production exceeds your current usage, any excess electricity automatically feeds back to the utility grid. You will literally see your meter spinning backwards as your system earns kilowatt-hour (kWh) credits on your account. At night, when you’re not generating electricity, you use those credits to power your home. This process is called Net-Metering, and it allows you to reduce your monthly bill to less than $5. This small charge covers the part of your electric bill that is not related to your actual usage.

If you require an off-grid solar power system, or simply backup power, Acro can do that too! We design and build systems that can utilize battery banks for storing electricity, or take advantage of traditional standby generators for emergencies. Such systems are often applicable for customers that experience frequent power outages, or properties which are far away from utility lines.
