No matter where you live, for every minute of every day, the sun is shedding light upon your home or business. Light is made up of tiny particles called photons, and these photons are like mini-packets of clean energy.
Acro helps you harvest this clean, endless energy supply. It’s yours to use. And it’s free.
Acro installs photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on your property that will harvest the sunlight. The word photovoltaic refers to electricity derived from the sun: photo – light, voltaic – electricity.
These solar PV panels are generally on the sunniest portion of your roof, but sometimes it’s preferable to locate the panels in a field or portion of a yard.
The panels, also called photovoltaic panels or simply PV panels, are comprised of wafer-thin semiconductors called PV cells. The cells are made of silicon, just like the semi-conductors in your computer., but the silicon has been modified in such a way that allows it to convert light into electricity.
Multiple PV cells are wired together and enclosed in glass to form a flat PV panel. Usually one panel isn’t enough, so we group several of them in together to create a solar array.
The structure of the panel protects the PV cells from the elements. The panels are rugged enough to withstand wind, hail, heavy snow, other extreme weather conditions, and even corrosion.
When light strikes the PV cell, energy that was carried by the photon is absorbed by the solar cell.
The energy starts a chain reaction. It knocks electrons loose inside the solar cell, and the construction of the cell forces the electrons to flow, creating a direct electric current (DC Electricity).
