Plans for satellite power plants on Obama's desk?

Obama's new renewable energy plan may include developing orbiting solar power plants.  Satellites would orbit the earth collecting solar energy to beam down to Earth via high powered mircowaves or expirimental lasers.  This type of technology has been a dream for years - most satelites are already exclusively powered by the sun.  Research shows that using microwaves to send the energy to Earth would be safe, but we still wonder: Would anyone like some popcorn?
