Pacific Gas deal will nearly double USA's solar power

In a groundbreaking move, PG and E plans to develop the world's largest solar plants in California. Two photovoltaic plants will be built in San Luis Obispo County with the capacity to generate 800 megawatts of electricity. The largest existing solar energy plant in the nation, located in San Jose, has the capacity to generate 14 megawatts of electricity.

With the expiration of federal tax incentives looming on the horizon, there is a risk that the project will be delayed. Currently, Congress has not passed a bill to extend the 30% federal tax credit for renewable energy that is slated to expire at the end of the year. When this project meets completion, PG&E promises to provide solar energy at more competitive rates.
