The USMC (United States Marine Corps) announced today their plans to make the Kaneohe Bay base in Honolulu energy self-sufficient by 2015. They plan too build a large solar power array which could be online as soon as next fall. The USMC is just one of the military branches in Hawaii studying for more efficient and cleaner sources of energy. Currently the combined military bases use an overall 15% of the power generated by the Hawaiian Electric Co., which is the largest single utility for the company.
